48 Hours in Canterbury

A couple of weekends ago, we escaped daily life for a weekend away in Canterbury. It was a glorious weekend, that was spent eating yummy food and exploring.

I thought I would compile a mini travelogue of where we stayed, what we did, and where we ate, in case any of you are thinking of visiting and need some inspiration!

Where we Stayed:

 We decided to stay at the Travelodge Chaucer Hotel, which is literally a stones throw from the main streets of Canterbury. Nearby there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. As well as an abundance of quaint, cute cafes! We stayed in a standard double room which was spacious, warm and quiet. The perfect base for exploring.

What We Did

 We arrived early Saturday morning, eager to make the most of our indulgent weekend away, and filled with excitement for our mini adventure. After dropping off our bags we headed off to see the sights. Of course no trip to Canterbury would be complete without a trip to the iconic Canterbury Cathedral. It really is a work of art to look at, and full of history.
Here are some other interesting activities to get up to;
- Take a boat tour down the river Stour. A fantastic way to see the sights and hear some great tales! Also if you're feeling a bit romantic, you can pay extra to hire the boat for just you and your loved one, pack a picnic, sit back and relax. Bliss.
- Visit the Canterbury Tales. A fun for all the family attraction, telling some of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury tales accompanied by some funny animations, and very odd smells!

- Grab a fresh juice & stroll through the Westgate Gardens, take a picnic blanket and sit a while.

- Explore the ruins of the Norman Castle.

These are just some of the things we got up to on our weekend visit. However, if you have longer there is so much more to see and do! There's plenty of; shopping, walking tours, ghost tours, Howletts Animal park to name a few. Not to mention all of the quaint pubs and mouth watering restaurants to try out!

Where we Ate

Kitch - Kitch is a quaint, healthy café, offering delicious food that's made with the best ingredients. We stopped by for Brunch, and were so glad that we did! I have written a whole blog post dedicated to Kitch as we loved it so much, if you fancy a read, and a drool at the gorgeous food (there's pancakes!) you can find the post here. Let's not forget the insta-worthy marble tables too!

The Refectory - Another gorgeous Brunch place! We sat outside in the lovely morning sunshine, watching the world go by. All whilst drinking a flat white, and nibbling on French toast. It was glorious, and I would highly recommend sitting outside, weather permitting of course!

The Skinny Kitchen - A healthy food restaurant serving zingy fresh juices, skinny pizza's and healthy puddings! Pizza and pudding? yes please! The décor here is amazing with a monochrome and green style, adorned with copper accessories.  I'm popping up an entire blog post about this place soon, as it does some amazing food, so keep you eyes peeled for that one!

So that concludes my mini travelogue of 48 hours in Canterbury! I hope that you found this interesting/helpful, and if you liked the style of this post let me know. I love to travel and share them here on my blog, but i'm not sure how to set up my posts. Sometimes I like to set them up as a photo diary, where I share all of our photos, then other times I like to share our travels in a more informative travel guide style! Let me know which way you would prefer to see my future travel posts, or if would you like to see a mixture of both? I'm off on Honeymoon to the Dominican Republic soon, and thought that it would be more suited to a photo diary format?
 Let me know your thoughts!
